The Speed-Up System

The Deck told you that whoever speeds up first loses the point. This book is about being the exception.

The Decision Deck gave you one rule, and kept it binary on purpose: below the net you reset, above it you attack, no third option. At 3.0 it has to be that simple. 24 pages on the one skill that splits that rule in two, for players rated 3.5 to 4.5, for when the 30 days are done.

The gap it closes: from hard to beat to wins the point.

What's inside

• A 24-ball judgement test: you make the call on each one, then you find out what the right call was and why.
• 12 named patterns · short repeatable sequences where each shot creates the condition the next one needs. Wide then body. Drive, drop, attack. Reset, reset, attack.
• A 12-week programme in three phases, recognition then execution then patterns, with a written focus for every single week.
• 5 numbers you track, each with the range to aim for at week 1, week 6 and week 12. The headline one is your speed-up win rate: 3 in 10 at the start, 6 or better in 10 by week twelve.

Deliberately narrow

One book, one skill. Everything in it either builds the speed-up, defends against it, or finishes what it creates. The rule from the Deck still holds: never speed up a ball below the top of the net. You just get far better at seeing when it is above it.

Read this first

This is not the starting point. It assumes the fundamentals from The Decision Deck are already underneath you: a reliable serve and a deep return, a third shot you can choose on purpose, and a dink you can keep low. If one of those is still shaky, spend a month there first. Attacking skills built on a weak foundation just produce faster errors.
